Smart Invest (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices and rights you have in relation to it. It applies to the Smart Invest mobile app (“App”) and the website at trysmartinvest.app (“Site”).
1. Who We Are (Controller)
For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, Smart Invest (the developer/operator of the App) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
We collect and process the minimum information necessary to provide and improve the App:
- Preferences you provide: country, investment style, and monthly/lump-sum investment amounts. These are stored locally on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, synced via Apple’s iCloud service.
- Anonymous usage data: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymised, aggregated data about how the app is used (e.g. which screens are visited, which features are used). No personally identifiable information is included in these events.
- Crash reports: We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect anonymised crash and performance data to help us fix bugs.
- Feedback you submit: If you choose to submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, your message and selected feedback category are sent to our internal Slack workspace. No other personal data is attached unless you include it in the message text.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any contact information.
- We do not require account creation.
- We do not collect financial account details or any actual investment data.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties.
4. Anonymous Authentication
The App uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication to assign a random, non-identifiable session ID. This ID is used only for analytics grouping and does not link to any personal identity. You cannot be identified from this ID.
5. iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your in-app preferences (country, investment style, amounts, and terms acceptance timestamp) are synced via Apple CloudKit. This data is stored under your Apple ID on Apple’s servers. We do not have access to this data — it is managed entirely by Apple and subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy.
6. How We Use Information (Purposes)
- Provide the App (show platforms, wiki content, calculator, and your saved preferences).
- Improve reliability and fix bugs (Crashlytics and aggregated diagnostics).
- Understand usage in an aggregated way to improve features and UX (Analytics).
- Respond to feedback you send us.
7. Legal Bases (EU/UK)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases (as applicable): performance of a contract (to provide core app functionality), legitimate interests (to maintain and improve the App, prevent abuse, and ensure security), and consent where required by law for certain analytics/measurement technologies.
8. Third-Party Services (Processors)
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies and terms:
- Firebase (Google) – Analytics, Crashlytics, and anonymous authentication.
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit – Device preferences sync.
- Frankfurter API – Currency conversion rates (no personal data sent).
- Slack – Used only if you submit feedback via the in‑app feedback form (your message is delivered to our internal workspace).
9. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers (such as Google/Firebase and Slack) may process data on servers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum) and/or other legally recognised transfer mechanisms.
10. Data Retention
Local data persists on your device until you reset your preferences or uninstall the App. iCloud data persists until you delete it from your iCloud account. Analytics and crash data is retained by Firebase according to the configuration of our Firebase project and Google’s retention settings.
11. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for securing your device and iCloud account.
12. Children’s Privacy
Smart Invest is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
13. Your Rights (EU/UK)
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the following rights:
- Access to your personal data.
- Rectification of inaccurate data.
- Deletion (where applicable). For local/iCloud data this can be done by resetting preferences in the App and/or managing iCloud data in your device settings.
- Restriction of processing (in certain cases).
- Portability (in certain cases).
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (in certain cases).
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (EU) or the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your request as required by law.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
15. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at [email protected].
